What makes Great Jones special?

We designed our collection with the support of some of the top leaders in food in America, including Momofuku's David Chang and Sqirl’s Jessica Koslow. We studied, custom-built, and stress-tested the curves and slopes of our cookware (so food doesn’t get trapped), the grips of our handles (ergonomics!), and the distribution of heat (even, steady). We also think it looks as good sitting on your stove as it feels in your hands; cookware shouldn’t be relegated to underneath your sink. There’s a reason behind every design decision we made, and you can find more information on each product detail page.

Which products should I purchase?

We want to help you pare down clutter in your kitchen and focus on the pieces you actually need to cook at home — not what you necessarily need to be a professional chef (but dream big!). To set yourself up for success, you’ll want a mix of materials: enameled cast iron, stainless steel, and ceramic nonstick. Our Family Style collection, which costs $395, covers all these bases. But we realize that everyone’s needs are different; if you’re only scrambling eggs, you only need the Small Fry. Call us when you graduate to braising. We’re here to help you figure it all out.

What can I make in Great Jones cookware?

Anything and everything you love to eat. Slow-cooked beef bourguignon is a great match for the Dutchess. You can fry meatballs in Deep Cut. Saucy is the ideal size for cheesy risotto.

On each product detail page, you’ll find recipes from people we admire. We hope they inspire you! You can also write us directly — we always have ideas on what to cook after a long day.

Tell me the difference between nonstick and stainless steel.

Fully clad stainless steel is durable and excellent at evenly retaining heat. It can handle high-temperature cooking, which is helpful if you're making something that needs to cook on both the stove and in the oven. Also, because our stainless pieces can get so hot, they're great for making things crispy and developing those little brown specks of flavor on the bottom of the pan (called "fond"). Stainless does require more cleaning time than nonstick, but we promise the difference in flavor makes it worth the effort.

Nonstick pans, like the Small Fry, are best for cooking foods you absolutely don't want to get stuck to your skillet. Our nonstick ceramic coating is built to last, but nonstick pans do need to be replaced more frequently than stainless ones.

You keep saying “fully clad” to describe your stainless products. What do you mean by this?

When we call our stainless pieces “fully clad,” we’re referring to the way they’re built. Between the exterior stainless-steel layers is an aluminum core. This core travels up the sides of each pan and helps distribute heat across the entire surface, so your food heats up and cooks evenly.

Is Great Jones cookware oven-safe? Induction-safe?

Yes and yes! Each piece of cookware is designed purposefully to be used in and on all cooking surfaces, including induction cooktops and ovens.

Where does the name Great Jones come from?

The name Great Jones is a nod to Judith Jones, a cookbook author and editor who championed and published the work of Julia Child, Edna Lewis, James Beard, and many others. She died in 2017 at age 93. It’s also a reference to New York, where we’re proud to both live and build our business.

Is Great Jones hiring?

We’re blushing! We’re always interested in meeting smart, passionate, and hardworking people who like to cook. Take a look at our Careers page to see what positions we’re currently looking to fill. (We can promise great office snacks.)

Can I sell Great Jones in my store?

Sorry, bro! We’re in an exclusive relationship with ourselves.

I want to write about you! Where do I direct my press inquiry?

Is it hot in here or is that just our stove? Write to us here, but only if you’re writing something nice.

How do I register for Great Jones products for my wedding?

It's as easy as pie — or eating wedding cake. On Zola, you can register for Great Jones by linking to any (or all!) of the pieces you'd like. Zola will direct your wedding guests to our site, and once they finish checking out, your Zola registry will reflect that your Great Jones item has been purchased. For more information on this, check out Zola's instructions here.

What is your return policy for cookware?

We have a 30-day, no-questions-asked return or exchange policy. We want you to be happy with your decision, so you’re welcome to spend that time sautéing and braising and baking. All refunds will be credited back to your initial form of payment.

What is your return policy for non-cookware items?

Our magnets, totes, and pot holders are nonrefundable. If any of your merch arrives damaged (oy!), please write to us.

I cooked in the product I’m returning! What happens to it now?

All returned Great Jones cookware is recycled. We also have a local partnership with Housing Works in New York, for the cases in which we donate gently used products.

My cookware arrived damaged. What do I do?

Yikes! Sometimes the trip from our warehouse to your home can rough it up a bit. Email us and we’ll ship you a replacement, along with a return label for your damaged piece.

Mari Andrew's Care Guide
Where are Great Jones products made?

Our co-founders designed Great Jones in New York and vetted cookware factories all over the world when deciding where to manufacture. After traveling to Hong Kong, they selected two factories nearby, in Guangdong and Tianjin (see here!): one focuses on our stainless-steel pieces, and the other on our cast-iron Dutchesses.

Responsibility and ethical manufacturing are core Great Jones values; we feel strongly about building personal, long-lasting relationships with our suppliers and offering a transparent look into the process.

What materials do you use?

Small Fry, Deep Cut, Saucy, and Big Deal are all made of nonreactive stainless steel, so you can cook whatever butters your bread (even if that’s just butter and bread) without worrying about our cookware impacting flavor. Also, all of these products have an aluminum core, ensuring heat distributes evenly (so one side of your steak isn’t rare while the other is well done). The handles and knobs are stainless steel; they’re crafted to dissipate heat.

The Small Fry, exclusively, has a nonstick ceramic coating (no Teflon!). Nontoxic materials shouldn’t be the exception; they should be the new standard.

The Dutchess is made of cast-iron enamel. Cast iron gets — and stays — quite hot, and the enamel makes it easier to clean and care for (no need to season it!). For the interior enamel, we chose gray. The color is light enough to allow you to see butter browning, but dark enough to resist stains.

Our pieces contain trace amounts of nickel.

Do your handles get hot?

We specifically designed our signature handle, which is made of stainless steel, to dissipate heat. The custom, contoured shape makes it stay as cool as it looks, and we did extensive testing to ensure this.

That said, the handles do get hot if you’re putting Great Jones cookware in the oven, in which case you should reach for an oven mitt or pot holder. You should do the same when holding our helper handles over high heat.

How do I clean my cookware?

Check (and print) out our care card!

How should I store my cookware?

Make sure your cookware is clean and dry when you store it. Small Fry and Saucy are designed so you can stack them (they also share a lid size). The same goes for Big Deal and Deep Cut. Treat the Dutchess like royalty — find a dry, clean, spacious place for her to live, and handle with care.

Do your products have a warranty?

Yes! You can find it here.

How can I check my gift card balance?

Write to us and we’ll check it for you, no problem.

What’s the deal with getting my pans engraved?

You have 20 characters to write anything you desire. All messages are engraved on the top of the lid, in our signature Great Jones Cooper font. Please allow seven extra shipping days for us to personalize your lid, and keep in mind that engraved lids cannot be returned or exchanged.

Where is the engraving done?

All pieces are engraved right outside of New York City, where we're based.

Can each of the lids in my Family Style set say something different?

Both the lids in your Family Style set will be engraved with the same message. If you’d like them to have different messages, please order each piece separately.

Can I engrave The Dutchess?

Engraving isn’t an option for The Dutchess right now. Take your initials and catchphrases over to Saucy, Deep Cut, Big Deal or the Family Style lids!

What if I already own a pot, but want to just order an engraved lid?

We don't sell lids separately at the moment, but we're working on it. Hold tight!
